Usage area

weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) is highly adhesive on glazed and unglazed ceramic surfaces, on absorbent mineral substrates as well as on aluminium an stainless steel indoors and outdoors.
It is also highly adhesive on the water-proofing membranes weber.tec 827 (SUPERFLEX 40) and weber.tec 827 S (SUPERFLEX 40 S).

weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) is suitable as a trowel-grade adhesive for ceramic tiles and slabs, particularly for renovation works for:

• balconies and terraces, even on existing glazed and non-glazed ceramic coverings
• wet-duty rooms with high water load
• saunas and solariums
• commercial and industrial kitchens with high waterload and low pH
• laboratories

In addition, weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) ) is suitable for embedding rain gutter metal hanging fixtures on balconies and terraces.

Storage

The product can be stored dry, cool and in its original sealed packaging for at least 12 months.

Application

Pre-treatment of substrate

The substrate must be sufficiently solid, load-bearing, clean, dry, sound and free from cement laitance, dirt, oil, grease or any other adhesion-diminishing particles.

The residual moisture content of mineral substrates must be less than 4% by weight (measured with carbide hygrometer).

Completely remove stains of oil, grease, wax and cleaning agents with weber.sys 894 (ADEXIN ZE).
Light stains of grease or wax (due to the use of household cleaners) must be removed with weber.sys 992 (thinner AX).

Check the bonding of weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) on pre-treated or factory- supplied non-glazed tiles and slabs in a pre-test.

If adhesion is insufficient, then roughen the substrate through sanding or sandblasting and check the adhesion again.

Larger cavities (honeycombs) or damaged areas must be repaired beforehand.

Steel substrates must be treated with an anti-corrosion product. Afterwards it must be milled and cleaned.

Aluminium and stainless steel must receive a thin scratch layer of weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41). Afterwards the tiles are laid fresh-in-fresh onto the tile adhesive layer.

Mixing

weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) is delivered in 2 components (component A = resin base and component B = hardener).

The quantities of the components are precisely matched to each other in the factory. Avoid using partial quantities whenever possible.

Pierce the larger container part at two spots with a steel drift to discharge the hardener completely into the resin base within the smaller container part. Both components are thoroughly mixed within the lower part of the container mechanically with a slow-speed electric drill and the weber.sys stirrer Nr. 2 or 8, depending on container size. Attention must be paid to bottom and walls of the container during mixing. This will prevent any inaccurate dosage. After mixing, no colour difference should be visible in the mixture.

The mixing time is at least 2 minutes.

When decanting the mixed components into an empty container after mixing and when mixing again for one more minute, the mixing will be improved. When using partial quantities, the mixing ratio given on the container label must be observed.

Immediately after mixing the product must applied.

Directions for use

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
• All characteristics are based on a temperature of +23°C without draught and relative humidity rate of 50 %.
• Higher temperatures and lower humidity accelerate, lower temperatures and higher humidity delay the course of the reaction.
• For installation the instructions specified in DIN 18157, the current ZDB leaflets as well as the applicable guidelines must be complied with. The respective maximum residual substrate moisture at the time of installation should not be exceeded.
• Do not install tiles, slabs, or natural stones that have been stored damp, wet, or too cold.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
• In case of embedding rain gutter metal hanging fixtures on balconies and terraces, the fixtures must be fixed mechanically with the substrate.
• weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) is not convenient on existing ceramic coverings in outdoor areas (for ex. balconies or terraces) that are located above heated premises.
• High-quality reactive resins demand a compressive strength of ≥ 30 N/mm² and a pull-off strength of ≥ 1,5 N/mm² for concrete substrates.
• The temperature of the substrate must be at least 3°C above the dew point to reduce risk of condensation.

Application

Apply weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41)
a) either on the still tacky primer (without silica sand) or
b) or (if waiting times are longer) on the cured primer which has been strewn with kiln-dried silica sand (grain size 0.1 - 0.5 mm).

Apply weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) in one coat on horizontal, vertical or inclined surfaces with the weber rake with the notched triangular blade No. 2 and immediately thereafter smooth in a uniform
0,2 mm thickness with the flat side of the rake. Consumption: approx. 2,4 kg/m2.

After approx. 24 to 48 hours (depending on air and substrate temperature) lay the ceramic tiles in thin-bed method with weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41). The notch size of the trowel may not exceed 6 mm.

For horizontal surfaces, weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) may also be applied in the middle-bed method.

If ceramic tiles are subsequently laid with weber.xerm 852, or weber.xerm 858 BlueComfort or weber.xerm 853 F (KM Flex + Fix) in the thin-bed or middle-bed method, then strew the fresh layer weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41) with weber kiln-dried silica sand (grain size 0,7-1,2 mm).

Sand off vertical surfaces with oil-free compressed air.

If the sealing tapes weber.tec 828 DB 75 (SUPERFLEX AB 75) or weber.tec 828 DB 150 (SUPERFLEX AB 150) are bonded with weber.xerm 847 (SUPERFLEX 41), then the overlapping parts must first be cleaned with weber.sys 992 (thinner AX). Wait for evaporation of solvents before bonding.

Clean tools immediately after use with weber.sys 992 (tinner AX).
